Le Merle
The artist François Lemieux and friends started a bilingual journal self-published in Montréal.
The challenge for us was to develop an object that could be produced cheaply and in a very low print run but do justice to the eclectic and sophisticated content.
We explored the possibilities of low budget production methods. We find the dissemination of printed matter in small print runs (for artists and art institutions) a very interesting design question.
A combination of chunky and robust typography and specially ordered paper for the inside, give the publication a convincing feel, even though it is produced at a copy shop.
Small means and gestures to make the formal aspect and the tone of Le Merle convincing and functional.
